Hey everybody,

in solidarity with my friend Junior, I created this fundraising campaign, to support his right of freedom of movement and therefore his work and dedication to community building projects.

Since many years, Juniors work inspires both, my activism and scholarship. Rarely have I met someone so creative, resilient and consistently positive — despite all the hardship, discrimination and structural barriers imposed on him and his community.

That is why I am reaching out to you, your friends, families, and networks. By contributing and sharing this campaign, you help enable Junior to continue his work in Tangier and to support migrant self-organization in Morocco.

Junior himself can best explain what this campaign is about and why it matters:

Hello,
my name is Junior.

I am a Cameroonian migrant, an artist, community organizer and an activist for migrant rights, freedom of movement, and against all forms of discrimination. I arrived in Morocco in 2011 with the intention of crossing borders toward Europe. After many years marked by emotional, physical, psychological, and financial hardship—and at times facing life-threatening situations—I took a step back to reflect on my life and my convictions.
Out of this reflection, I began developing activities aimed at raising awareness, providing guidance, and promoting the social integration of subsaharian migrants in Morocco.

This work allowed me to create an artistic collective and a structure dedicated to supporting talented migrants who wish to develop their artistic passions with dignity and to be recognized on national and international stages. This work led to the creation of SHU MOM ART, an independent initiative with which we have been working on a voluntary basis since 2020. Our goal is to enable migrants to integrate and regularize their social situations, which remain extremely precarious for the majority of sub-Saharan migrants. SHU MOM ART organises creative workshops, exhibitions, donations (clothes, basic food, school materials etc.), as well as several community events, such as music, sport or educative events. Our aim is to give sub-Saharan migrants a voice, built a safe community and allow us to take space within the Moroccan society, also by promoting African-Arab-Culture and social encounters.

As a migrant, activist, and now independent entrepreneur, I have been requesting legal residence in Morocco continuously since 2014. However, the current political context around migration has prevented me from obtaining a residence permit, which is essential for developing my national and international projects.
As a result, I am now obliged to return to my country of origin to apply for a business visa with SHU MOM ART. This is the safest way to for me to finally end my irregular status.
For most of the past decade, my engagements have allowed me only to survive—to avoid hunger, cold, and depression. I have now managed to gather the basic required documents and believe that returning to Cameroon will allow me to obtain freedom of movement, a residence permit, and the possibility to continue my work as an activist, entrepreneur and social worker.
I am therefore asking for your support to help me manage the logistics of this journey and to ensure my return after completing all the necessary procedures and papers. Below, I share the detailed travel and administrative costs related to the business visa application and the complementary documentation required for SHU MOM ART in Morocco.
