Getting our autistic son Cass outdoors!
Donation protected
Hi, our names are Tamella and Bryan and we’d love to raise some funds to help us buy a disability bicycle that accommodates our autistic son, Cassius.
We’re hoping to instill in our son a love of nature and the outdoors, but he has severe anxiety about going out for walks because he gets tired quickly and then becomes frozen on the spot, unable to move any further, resulting in either me or Bryan needing to carry him. We thought a bicycle would be more fun for him and help encourage a healthy lifestyle with exercise and time to connect as a family outside of the home.
As a result of his autism, Cass is unable to ride a standard children’s bicycle; he has balance and co-ordination challenges, so a bicycle that supports his needs, but is powered by an adult, is what he’d need. Cass also has no sense of danger, so something specialist with a high level of protection (specialised seat, harness style seatbelt etc) is paramount to keep him safe when considering which bike would suit his needs.
We would greatly appreciate anyone who could help us provide Cassius with the kind of specialist bicycle he needs.
Thank you,
Tamella, Bryan and Cass x
