Starting November 1st we will provide free sack lunches. These are intended for those who are losing their SNAP benefits. Each sack lunch will have a PB&J, Chips/Vegetable Pouch, and Juice Box.
You will be able to take as many as you need. Every day we will make fresh sandwiches, and more will be made as we need them.
If you would like to help us purchase ingredients for this, we will have an option available at the register. Our cost is around $1.75-2.25(item dependent) per sack lunch.
Our back bar is going to be turned into a FREE pantry. We encourage anyone who has spare non-perishable goods to please bring them in. We will do our best to keep it clean and organized. This will be a self-serve pantry. You will not be judged by what you take or how much. I will do my best to keep everyone updated as to what we might have available.
As demand grows we will do our best to keep up with the requests that come in.
SNAP provides for over 757,000 Oregonians- it’s necessary financial assistance they need to get food to the table. 24.5% of Oregon SNAP users are households with one or more children. 47% of snap users are female single-parent households. 210,000 of the snap recipients are children and another 130,000 SNAP recipients are over the age of 65, according to ODHS.
If your reaction is anything but love and support for your neighbor and those not as fortunate- we suggest take a walk, then come back to the conversation. Life is hard. Grocery prices are up. Benefits have been going down for years. Let’s help one another.
Remember, we have friends everywhere.
You are not alone, we are all in this together.
