Free Narcan and Supplies to NC State Community

Donation protected
Our names are Alyssa Price and Naila Din, and we are both Second Year students at North Carolina State University. We both share a common interest: helping students on campus to obtain more access to medical knowledge and accessible medical care.

The opioid epidemic and national mental health crisis has reached all corners of our society, and that includes the college experience. We recognize there are times in which students are unsafely using drugs. We want to ensure students have the resources available to protect themselves and those around them. We know that if a college campus is equipped with life saving medication, such as Narcan, we can proactively ensure NC State University's community is educated and prepared for alarming situations.

As of March 2023, the Food and Drug Administration approved NARCAN, an easy-to-administer nasal spray consisting of Naloxone, for over-the-counter use without a prescription (1).

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, "Naloxone is a medicine that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose. It is an opioid antagonist. This means that it attaches to opioid receptors and reverses and blocks the effects of other opioids. Naloxone can quickly restore normal breathing to a person if their breathing has slowed or stopped because of an opioid overdose. But, naloxone has no effect on someone who does not have opioids in their system." (2)

After we have discussed with NC State's Prevention Services and Campus Health to incorporate free and accessible Narcan for students to have, like some of our partnering Universities in the UNC School System, there is just not enough funds that the University has to provide hundreds of students with free Narcan.

Our student-led initiative is focused on encouraging safety and saving lives on our campus. By fundraising for Narcan, an opioid overdose reversal medication, we aim to provide it at no cost to our peers at North Carolina State University. Your contribution will be a key part of our efforts to make our campus more equipped with knowledge and a lifesaving medication.

What we are fundraising for:
1. Free Narcan for peers at NC State University.
2. Preventative measures to ensure students are being safe, such as Fentanyl Testing Strips, etc.
3. Increase in education for students about the risks of drug use and overdose signs.

100% of the money you all donate to help our fundraiser will be used to purchase the equipment and will be donated to NC State's Prevention Services. Alyssa and Naila will partner with Prevention Services to host tabling events on campus and other events that will directly go to the NC State Community.

If you all have any questions or commentary, we would be happy to discuss by emailing us.

Join us in this important cause by supporting our GoFundMe campaign. Together, we can make a significant difference and ensure that every student has access to these essential resources in times of need. We thank you all in advance for your contribution to something important to all of us.
