My name is Noah Thompson, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my older brother, Quincy, who has spent the last nine years in prison for a crime he did not commit. We are seeking financial support to help hire an attorney—someone who will fight for him and give him the fair shot at justice he never had.
Just three months after turning 19, Quincy was a student at American River College, working at Starbucks, and preparing to try out for the college basketball team. He was focused, determined, and hopeful for his future. But his life changed in an instant when he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Police were searching for a Black male who was 5’7” tall. Quincy is 6’4”. Despite the obvious height difference and lack of real evidence, he was arrested and charged—as an African American male who simply fit a vague description.
The public defender assigned to him failed him completely—Quincy wasn’t allowed to present any witnesses, and he was even denied the right to testify on his own behalf. To make matters worse, the judge told Quincy directly that he knew his father and was going to make an example out of him. He was sentenced to 26 years in prison, with 19 of those years being enhancements—some of which were stacked or duplicated unfairly. He has appealed his case twice, and both times, corrections had to be made, showing that serious errors were present. Now, Quincy can’t even get in contact with his attorney, and we are left feeling helpless.
Statistics show that Black males receive sentences that are 13.4% longer on average and serve 4.7% more time in prison compared to their white counterparts. Quincy is one of many who are living this harsh reality. But to our family, he’s not a statistic—he’s a kind, funny, caring young man whose life has been stolen by a broken system. His health is slowly declining, and while he’s trying to remain strong, he’s starting to lose hope. He has begun to fear that he might not make it out alive.
I’m asking for your support—whether it’s through a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing Quincy’s story. Every bit of help matters. No family should have to watch a loved one suffer this way simply because they didn’t have the money for real legal representation. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for standing with us in the fight for Quincy’s freedom.
