Kuya Darren, known by his family as Rhen, is an exemplary father, son, and community member. Kuya Darren and his wife are childhood sweethearts and this detention is the first time they've been separated in 32 years. With an 8-year impeccable record in the USA, his dedication to his family is truly inspiring. Born in the Philippines, he selflessly works abroad to support his parents battling kidney disease and funds his son's education, while still taking care of his two other children.
On July 24, 2025, Kuya Darren was unexpectedly detained by ICE due to a pending traffic case, handcuffed in front of his traumatized daughter. Now, imprisoned in Indiana, his family's heartbreak is palpable.
While his detention was being processed in Broadview, he was forced to sleep on a cold floor with only a plastic blanket. In the Indiana detention center, Kuya Darren has shared that he has had to wear the same soiled clothing due to only having access to laundry one time a week. A T-shirt costs as much as $25 and boxer shorts are $20. In addition, Kuya has had to pay for all of his necessities like tooth paste, shampoo, and conditioner. A 3-in-1 body wash is as much as $9 for 3 oz. Since being detained, he's been unable to step outside and breathe fresh air.
We are calling on your support to raise funds for Kuya Darren and his family for legal expenses, visitation fees, communication fees, and living expenses and to join us as we fight for the continued safety during this time.
