Help bring Gerson out of NWDC

My name is Nela, and I am starting this fundraiser for my boyfriend, Gerson, the person who’s been my everything since the day we met.

Gerson is 22 years old. He’s one of the most kind, humble, hard-working people I’ve ever known. And now he’s locked in an ICE detention center in Tacoma, WA, taken from his life, from me, and from everything he worked so hard to build.

But this Saturday, everything changed.

That morning, Gerson texted me that he was on his way to pick me up. It was supposed to be a normal day. But a few minutes later, he was surrounded by ICE officers near his car in Burien, WA.

He has no criminal record, no previous deportation order, and no open charges. He’s just a young man who’s worked hard every single day, supported himself and his family in Guatemala, and dreamed of saving up to build a house back home someday.

He’s never asked for anything, and now, I’m asking for him. Gerson is more than just a case number. He’s a kind, humble young man who has always put others first. He never complains, never stops trying.

I wish I could do more on my own, but I’m not an American citizen. I’m here on a J-1 visa on an exchange program , and I don’t have the resources to pay for a lawyer or everything he needs in detention. That’s why I’m turning to this community for help.

It breaks my heart that I have to see him behind a glass wall, like a stranger. I can’t even hug the person I love most in this world.

No one should have to be treated this way, especially someone who’s done nothing wrong.

We are raising money to:

• ‍ Hire a lawyer who will fight for him, not give up on his case

•☎️ Help with phone calls, food, and basic needs inside detention

• ✈️ And if we are unable to stop his deportation, help Gerson restart his life in Guatemala with dignity, including supporting himself and his family
