Thursday, November 24, Edwin and I were on a road trip to Rocky Point in Mexico for a 4-day vacation. We reached the border in Sonoyta, where we were stopped for a routine check and got out of Edwin's truck. The border patrol found a gun under my seat that we forgot to keep home. What we thought would be a simple mistake and release the following day turned out to be our worst nightmare. We both were detained in Sonoyta for 48 hours with Edwin's truck, our belongings, phones, passports and wallet/purse confiscated. After 48 hours, we were driven 5 hours south to Hermosillo, where we finally saw a judge Saturday night who released me and kept Edwin. I was released with no form of ID, money, or phone. I do not speak Spanish, so I had to seek help from strangers to get to the US Embassy for an emergency passport and a flight home this past Wednesday. Edwin's family found a lawyer requesting $10,000 to get him out. At this point, I am in dire need of anyone to be able to support us in releasing Edwin from Federal Prison.
