So, if you haven't heard, Frank died of cancer. Quite suddenly. He was diagnosed in early September and had a particularly aggressive disease. He was discharged from hospital on December 5th after a great deal of difficult and painful treatment. He passed peacefully, at home with his family, the next day. December 6th 2024.
One day. One day is what he got. One day at home with his wife, Anne, and his son, Tomas. At Frank's request, they binge watched Survivor.
The film industry doesn't provide much of a safety net and Frank had some debt. Like all too many of us, he had a solid plan to rectify that (art and original photography sales) but was also a busy man. He was always working because he was so good at his job. And you don't expect to die when you're 63. One day he'd get to it.
Well, fate intervened and here we are. Anne and Tomas need a bit of help to get out from under this thing so they can grieve and move forward.
Frank had a profound influence on the thousands of people he worked with. His easy and beautiful smile, sense of humor and ferocious talent were evident to anybody who spent time with him. He was a gifted photographer, well travelled, articulate and erudite, positive to a fault. An inveterate storyteller. He had an enormous impact on everyone who was ever fortunate enough to work with him. See how he's not smiling in the photo? That's what makes it funny.
I wish we could all have one more day with him. We'd be lucky. I loved Frank Polyak and, if you knew him, you probably did too.
If you can contribute anything, it would be a huge help to his family.
thanks
