Hi, my name is Rachel and I am an 18 year old student. In June, I will be traveling alongside several other women with the Glenard & Beloved social project, to the village in Majur, Croatia, located on the border of Bosnia & Herzegovina.
This region of Croatia was one of the most heavily impacted by the conflicts of the Yugoslav wars around 30 years ago. Due to these circumstances, the village lost the majority of their men and other loved ones to the conflict, with generations of families lost. The infrastructure surrounding the community was also destroyed, leaving schools and homes scarred by bullets and debris. Unfortunately this is still the reality for the people of Majur, bravely working to undo the damage that was consequence of the conflict.
The goal of this volunteer trip is to contribute to the communities effort to rebuild their home village. We will be working in cooperation with the Mayor of this village, who has invited our assistance, to help repair derelict and destroyed buildings alongside other key infrastructure in the town, such as bridges, roads, walls and more. This is a very manual job and will require group effort and funding to source the necessary materials.
Any donations received will go directly to this project, including but not limited to; flights and travel, raw materials for repairing infrastructure, and food.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration, both I and the people of Majur will be extremely grateful for any contributions towards this work.
