Magic does not give you any warning and so was the case when a beautiful, fifteen year girl was brought into my life this summer. She was staying at the Burton Inn & Spa and initially, I thought she was part of a witness protection program but after her third night at the inn, I heard her story. She called herself a "foster kid" and said she was a chronic runaway, with an earth shattering 400 runaways in five years. I promised her, on the spot, that she would not be going back into" system". I am providing her a stable, safe place that I hope will be her forever home and final placement in foster care.
Now, two months later, we have started settled in, as a family. Luke absolutely loves her and calls her sis! We are being supported by some amazing organizations including; the YMCA, Treehouse and Vashon School District as well as an amazing and loving team at DCYF. BH has been accepted into Student Link, an alternative learning high school through Vashon School District and is attending school for the first time in over three years.
Recently, BH came to me and told me about a friend, another 15 year old girl, who was recently removed from a group home in Idaho, where she was sexually assaulted by a staff member. BH asked me if she could come stay with us, at least until January when she will have a permanent placement.
Change is the only thing we can count on and now, I know of two additional teenage girls who need safe homes. I have an unfinished space and the space needs a complete remodel. With your help we can transform the daylight basement into a two bedroom apartment with a bathroom and a kitchen, allowing for a total of four teenage foster care girls to live in my home. Yes, I am a little crazy, but it tends to serve me well!
These girls have experienced extreme trauma and many resources are available to them through the state. However, there are so many healing modalities that I would love the girls to have access to, such as; massage, acupuncture, yoga, Reiki and sound healing. It would be amazing if we could send them to a Week-Long Advanced Workshop with Dr. Joe Dispenza and support them with tuition for a Sophia Code Circle, which is my current passion for recovering from severe and complex trauma.
In addition, these young women need clothing, shoes, and a car or two (yikes!) I have never met such amazing young woman who are clearly thriving in the face of major atrocities. BH is a powerhouse, she is an advocate for herself like no other. She is a leader, a change agent, a system buster and I am proud to call her my kid. Thank you and many blessings for your support.
