JULY/AUGUST UPDATE: thank you all so, so, so much for providing $3,000 to cover july rent, bills, and medical expenses. we are still fundraising $3,500 in needed support to make sure yoselin's family is safe for upcoming august rent and bills and to give them a small safety cushion again for ongoing medical expenses, since they had to spend through their savings when bryan's surgery came up in may. we are really, really hoping bryan (yoselin's partner) is cleared to be back at work, post-surgery, by mid-july. thank you -- your support is helping them make it through a really tough time <3
asking for mutual aid for 2 months' rent and bills for our friend yoselin! yoselin is a writer and a disabled mom of 2 (a 4 y.o and a little 2-month-old) studying at UCR. finances had been tight but ok with a little savings cushion, between her partner's income and her grad student stipend. when her partner had emergency surgery in may, they unexpectedly lost his income in a job without PTO/sick leave. yoselin had ongoing medical needs where she already had to stop working a physically demanding job, and then both she and the 2-month-old had some critical, expensive medical needs come up in june, too. all of this happened within the same month and a half, and they ran through any savings to pay for june rent. everything has added up without a way to pull in extra income to keep things covered or look out for next months.
this mutual aid covers their regular bills, new medical bills, and rent for july through september until bryan's return to work can start to make up for the lost income and smooth things out again. yoselin texted us, "i know it's hard for so many people right now and i truly wish i didn't have to ask. my mom, cristina, would be the first one to help and would have been living with us but passed away during my pregnancy last year. anything truly helps to get us to a safe place with money just through the end of august."
there's not another option right now for yoselin, bryan, and their two kiddos, and this is needed just to help them be ok for 3 months. THANK YOU for anything you can give to help them make it through.
