'Formosan Futures' Emerging Indigenous Artist Exhibition
Donation protected
Hello wonderful friends,
I'm looking for last-minute sponsorship for my first independent exhibition! I have fundraised for several international causes for the past decade, but this will be my first ever call for funding of a personal project. So I'm a little nervous.
"Formosan Futures" is a collective art project in which I asked for submissions of written and visual art from emerging indigenous Taiwanese artists, to present at an exhibition this summer. The main purpose is to act as a platform for the voices of young indigenous people and those who are breaking into their career as an artist, as well as a community where they can connect and collaborate.
The project was initially made possible by the Nicola Anderson Memorial Bursary at the University of Sussex (Global Studies) which I am eternally grateful for. HOWEVER, I have gone massively over budget because I:
- Received about 3x more submissions to the exhibition "Open Call" than expected, so hired the lovely Bronson as an assistant curator
- Hope to reimburse artists for the costs incurred installing their work, and the three musicians who will be performing at the event (as I don't believe in working / making art solely for "exposure")
- Hired a professional translator so that the original essence of writers' work is kept in-tact for international audiences (thank you Han-Ling)
- Want to reimburse my talented photographer friend who will be travelling from HK to cover the event (big up Sky)
- Will give lovely little gifts to all the artists involved (hand-made and bought from a young indigenous language educator/activist/entrepreneur, Bulaljuljan)
I will do all of the above anyway, but since I'm now eating into my own savings I would deeply appreciate any extra support. I don't want to be frugal (my generosity does not match my student income), so if you would like something meaningful to invest into, then please consider this project.
Any donations made before this Friday will enable me to print your names in the final acknowledgements, and anything after that will be written into future credits. Honestly any tiny amount will make a massive difference, so no need to go big.
I will say a big thank you in advance for anyone who is able to contribute and will get in touch individually when things calm down.
Big love,
