Forget-Me-Not Cafe- for people with dementia
Donation protected
Having reached the ripe old age of 21 (plus 39 ) this year, and in a moment of complete madness, I signed up for my very first (and probably my last!) marathon. As I pounded the pavements with my two running pals (Ems and Babs), I fooled myself into thinking it was way off in the horizon somewhere! Oh, how deluded I was all those months ago as the day is now beckoning! Yes, in 2 weeks' time I shall be on the start line for The Loch Ness Marathon- a less than straightforward course for a novice like me. However, having made the commitment I shall see it through, even if I need to employ a headtorch and a high vis vest to get me over that finish line once darkness falls!
I was in two minds as to whether to seek sponsorship as I fully appreciate we are in challenging times. And then I thought, so too are the charities and worthy causes which help people get through tough times and life experiences. Therefore, dear reader, please do not feel obliged to donate- knowing that you support me will be fab. However, for any of you who do have a couple of spare bob, I would like to let you know about my plans. I am hoping to raise money which will go DIRECTLY to the people who need it. I plan to run to raise some funds for the ‘Forget-Me-Not'Cafe in Renfrew. This wonderful service is run completely by volunteers and donations is based in in Renfrew . It offers a lovely venue and friendly service at which people with dementia, their carers, families and friends can come and relax, share stories, enjoy activities, meet new people whilst giving a much-needed break from the trials and tribulations of this cruel disease for all concerned. I have complete empathy having direct experience with relatives who were diagnosed. Sadly, it is likely that we shall all come to know a friend or relative who will be diagnosed with dementia. You can see from the photo the pleasure and joy my father-in-law gets from his interactions with his granddaughter. Similar interactions are to be had at the cafe- a complete lifeline for all who attend.
If you can spare anything that would be so much appreciated- thank you!
Now where did I put that head torch………
