Let’s make our community even better with a living, educational classroom for each other and our children.
The Forest Lakes Community Garden will be on part of Anna and Doug Balfour’s lot next to their home, and the Board is excited for the project! Our thanks to them both! Our goal is to have a few raised garden beds, integrated with deer fencing, to be able to grow a variety of vegetables, fruits and herbs.
Interested neighbors can contact the garden committee (Tracy Miller, Anna Balfour & Elaine Weeks) to help with the construction and/or to be included in the tending schedule. Our goal is to have a regular tending schedule for interested neighbors to take part in, planned planting and harvesting days and educational workshops when we can. We will have some garden rules that neighbors will need to follow so we can ensure everyone's hard work pays off.
We have set a fundraising goal of $5000 to cover the costs of the irrigation installation, lumber, fencing, soil, plants and tools. Any excess funds will be kept for maintenance and future plantings. The number of garden beds we will be able to construct will depend on the amount of funds we are able to raise. If every lot owner in Forest Lakes contributed $35, we would meet our goal!
