Hi, my name is Shrista, and I’m launching For A Kid Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to granting birthday and holiday wishes for children (ages 0–18) whose families are facing financial hardship in the Portland, Oregon area.
This fundraiser has one clear purpose:
to cover the $275 IRS filing fee required to obtain 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status so the foundation can officially operate, accept tax-deductible donations, and apply for grants. The goal is set at $300 to help cover GoFundMe processing fees.
Once approved, For A Kid Foundation can begin serving families, building partnerships, and creating programs that ensure children still experience dignity, joy, and being seen — even during difficult seasons.
Why This Foundation Exists
I created For A Kid because I know what it feels like to be the child who goes unnoticed.
I grew up in a low-income, single-parent household where birthdays and holidays often passed quietly. I remember returning to school after winter break and listening to classmates talk about what they received, while knowing I had nothing to share. That feeling of invisibility stayed with me.
I promised myself that no child should ever feel forgotten simply because their family is struggling.
This vision was first shared during a simple phone call — when it was still just an idea — and Tasha Lianne, now Secretary of For A Kid Foundation, believed in it from the very beginning. Her early support helped turn this idea into a real, actionable mission.
Where We Are Now

✔️ The mission and vision are fully developed
The final step is securing tax-exempt status.
This fundraiser exists solely to remove that last barrier and make the foundation official.
