Hello, my name is Jannie Jonker, and I am Catalina Ramírez Alday’s uncle.

Today, I write this with a heavy heart to ask for help for my niece Catalina, a brave and loving young girl who has been fighting for her life since 2025.

Catalina is not only battling cancer. She also lives with a rare genetic condition called STAT5B deficiency and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), which makes her journey even more challenging.

In May 2025, Catalina began experiencing severe headaches and dizziness. After multiple medical exams, our family received devastating news: she had a brain tumor located in the left posterior part of her cerebellum.

She underwent major surgery to remove the tumor, and the biopsy confirmed our worst fear — a malignant medulloblastoma (Grade III–IV), an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Following surgery, Catalina had to begin physical rehabilitation due to motor and balance complications. Soon after, she started intensive cancer treatment, including aggressive radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

Since that moment, her life — and our entire family’s life — changed completely.

This year, the fight continues. Catalina must travel every month from Iquique to Santiago, Chile, to receive specialized treatment.

Unfortunately, many of these treatments — including immunotherapy — are not covered by the health system, creating a significant financial burden. The costs include:

As a family, we are doing everything we can… but we cannot do this alone.

That is why we are reaching out today with hope and humility.

Hola, mi nombre es Jannie Jonker, y soy el tío de Catalina Ramírez Alday.

Hoy escribo con el corazón en la mano para pedir ayuda para mi sobrina Catalina, una niña valiente y llena de amor, que desde el año 2025 enfrenta una dura batalla por su vida.

Catalina no solo lucha contra el cáncer. Ella además vive con una enfermedad genética llamada STAT5B y Trastorno del Espectro Autista (TEA), lo que hace que su camino sea aún más desafiante.

En mayo de 2025, comenzó con fuertes dolores de cabeza y mareos. Tras múltiples exámenes, recibimos una noticia devastadora: Catalina tenía un tumor cerebral en la parte posterior izquierda del cerebelo.

Fue sometida a una cirugía mayor para remover el tumor, y la biopsia confirmó lo que más temíamos: un meduloblastoma maligno grado III–IV, un cáncer altamente agresivo.

Después de la operación, Catalina tuvo que iniciar un proceso de rehabilitación debido a secuelas en su movilidad y equilibrio. Luego comenzó un tratamiento oncológico intensivo, incluyendo radioterapia y quimioterapia agresiva.

Desde ese momento, su vida —y la de toda nuestra familia— cambió por completo.

Este año, la lucha continúa. Catalina debe viajar todos los meses desde Iquique a Santiago para poder seguir con sus tratamientos, ya que son altamente especializados.

Lamentablemente, muchos de estos tratamientos, incluyendo la inmunoterapia, no están cubiertos por el sistema de salud, lo que implica un gasto enorme en:

Por eso hoy acudimos a ustedes, con humildad y esperanza.
