Hurricane Helene came through my town Black Mountain, NC on Friday, September 27th. The aftermath of the storm is devastating, leaving many homeless and without any belongings. We have friends who lost their home, car, and every possession.
Two days ago, I was with a group bringing food to a heavily impacted area in the mountains. A landslide had taken out the entire valley and almost every home in it. I spoke to a lady who, in an instant, had lost her entire immediate family. With tears in her eyes she said confidently that “God will get us through it.”
Our infrastructure is demolished. It’s difficult to know what information to believe, but I’ve heard reports that it will take up to a month to get power and water back. Looking at our roads it’s difficult to believe that’s even possible. Despite the devastation, our community is strong and it’s beautiful seeing people come together in this time of crisis.
Every church or capable business has set up some kind of relief station - food, water, diapers, formula - It really is a community unified.
My wife and I have been touched by the expression of love and support from others, many ask if there’s anything they can do. This GoFundMe is organized to provide financial support to those in our community. These funds will go directly to those who have lost or sustained damage to their home, belongings, or families. No gift is too small. Thank you for the support and love.
