For the Love of a Railway

‘For the Love of a Railway’ is a community enterprise driven by volunteers as a much needed new attraction for Axminster’s town centre. Opening on 26 October 2024, it will celebrate the legend of one incredible railway between Axminster and Lyme Regis, which closed in 1965. Some of us are model railway lovers, while others contribute skills in crafts, engineering, electronics, woodworking, design and promotion. We even have a former fireman who shovelled coal into Lyme Billy! Most of us are retired and it’s not all men! We love what we are doing and recognise the value of this project to our mental health and sense of well being. With your help we can extend that to others - people of every age - via a series of activities and events. We can also make a difference to our town. We have already raised the funds to establish our ‘Depot’ and stunning model. The financial challenge now is to sustain it. Our survival is by no means assured.
