Hi everyone,
My name is Jennifer, and I’m writing this on behalf of my dear friend Andrea, because right now she simply doesn’t have the strength or capacity to do this herself.
Andrea recently underwent major cancer surgery on Tuesday, January 13, during which a 13 cm ovarian tumor was removed, along with her uterus, cervix, and both ovaries. The surgery itself went well and there were no complications during the procedure. However, the surgeon also observed visual evidence of cancer spread within the peritoneum, which means Andrea’s fight is not over yet. She is now awaiting biopsy results to determine the next phase of treatment.
While Andrea is recovering from surgery, she is also dealing with serious complications related to ongoing fluid accumulation in her body. This has caused severe swelling, especially in her legs, making walking extremely difficult. Some days she can manage short distances with a walker; other days, the fluid makes her legs too heavy to lift at all. Because of this, she is unable to drive, prepare meals, or manage daily tasks independently.
Andrea is in pain, healing, and doing everything she can to stay hopeful — but she needs support.
Why I’m writing on Andrea’s behalf
Andrea is currently post-surgery and coping with significant pain, limited mobility, and fatigue. Writing, organizing, and asking for help simply aren’t possible for her right now. I’m stepping in so she can focus on healing, resting, and being present for her children.
How the funds will be used
Funds raised will help Andrea manage the very real, day-to-day costs of living while undergoing cancer treatment and recovery, including:
- An electric bed that allows her legs to elevate properly, helping reduce fluid buildup and giving her more mobility and comfort
- Housing costs, as she must maintain her home in Fort McMurray while also renting accommodations in Edmonton for treatment
- Transportation costs to and from medical appointments, as she cannot drive and must rely on Uber or taxis
- Food and grocery delivery, including Instacart and prepared meals, since standing, walking, and cooking are often not possible due to pain and swelling
- General living expenses during a time when Andrea cannot work or function independently
These supports don’t cure cancer — but they make this journey more humane, manageable, and dignified.
Andrea’s boys
Andrea is a devoted mom to two incredible little boys: Jara (7) and Kayo (5). When they learned that their mom needed help, they asked if they could be part of the fundraiser too. Their role is simple and full of heart — they want to help “spread kindness” by thanking donors, drawing pictures, and reminding their mom that she is surrounded by care and love.
Their involvement is about hope, not pressure — and about showing them that asking for help is okay.
A heartfelt ask
If you are able to donate, share this page, or send a message of encouragement, it would mean more than words can express. Every contribution — no matter the size — helps Andrea focus on healing instead of worrying about how she will manage day to day.
Please consider helping Andrea through this incredibly difficult chapter. Your kindness truly makes a difference.
With gratitude,
Jennifer
