Sonny's Canal House has been a staple of the Baldwin Community for over 100 years. Under the current ownership, we have been right here with our community through the hard times of Hurricanes Irene & Sandy, through countless charitable events and causes, and everything else in between, from family birthdays to funerals, weddings to holiday parties, frequent donations and fundraising requests , and our annual Canal Cleanup hosted with Operation Splash as part of our effort to serve & improve our local community, which we take great pride in.
Today, we are facing some of the most uncertain times that not only our community, but our country has seen in recent memory. Make no mistake, Sonny's has endured plenty of challenges in recent times, as most of our customers know well, and we intend to get through this too. However, at this time of need, we are asking for the help of our patrons to fundraise a financial cushion for our loyal & hard-working staff members, many of whom have unfortunately seen workable hours slashed due to government mandates over the past 2 months.
We are writing today not for ourselves as family owners of a local small business, but for our valued employees. Many of our staff members have been with us at Sonnys for over a decade now, as our customers will know from seeing the same friendly faces when stopping in for dinner or a drink. Whether it be one of our bartenders who always has the time of day to lend an ear, or one of our wait staff members who have likely served a family or company event for you. We are asking that our community think of and remember some of these individuals at this time, and that the nature of our hospitality industry depends on your generous patronage and tips, which has unfortunately been brought to a halt. This page has been put together by management, and not at the request of our staff. However, we are acutely aware of how hard these times can be without regular work hours and income, and are grateful for the attitude and service that our staff have carried to represent our business over the past decade.
For this reason, any and all proceeds raised in this go fund me page are strictly to be distributed among the impacted staff members at Sonny's Canal House directly, and will in no way be allocated to any business or ownership expenses.
Depending on the season, Sonny's can have up to 20+ dedicated staff members, almost all of whom are without work at this time. As the old expression goes "Charity begins in your own backyard." We realize our target goal is high, but we are calling on our local customers from Baldwin, Oceanside, Freeport, Rockville Centre, Merrick, Long Beach & beyond to help us give back to the people who always give their all to you with a smile. You know who they are, and we are all excited to reunite & be able to serve you again this summer. In the meantime, every little bit helps, as little as $20 can go a long way if we can get a few hundred good samaritans to participate!!
