On October 2nd, 2024, my world shifted when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I watched my mom face the endless appointments, the treatments, and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with this disease.
We were blessed to have support from family and friends, and that community kept us going. But even with that love around us, the financial burden was undeniable. The cost of treatment, medications, and the small but vital things that made my mom more comfortable all added up. It was an eye-opening reminder that battling cancer isn’t only about health, it’s also about access, support, and having what you need to keep fighting.
Through my mother’s journey, I realized how many women go through this without a strong support system. Women who face the same painful diagnosis but also carry the heavy weight of worrying about how they will pay for the things they desperately need, whether it’s a mastectomy bra, a prosthesis, skincare for treatment side effects, or even transportation to get to their appointments.
Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this is the perfect time to honor survivors, support those still fighting, and remember those we’ve lost. To honor my mother’s fight, I want to ease the burden for other women. Proceeds from this fundraiser will support breast cancer organizations in both Trinidad and Canada, helping women at home and abroad access the care and comfort they deserve.
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference. It means comfort, encouragement, and hope for someone in the fight of their life. If you are unable to donate, please feel free to share this link so the message can reach more hearts.
This fundraiser is dedicated to my mother, whose strength, courage, and love continue to inspire me every single day.
Thank you,
Shani A.
