For Judson's Family, Kelly & Griffin

On November 15, 2025, our community lost a truly extraordinary human being — Judson Wright. Judson was a devoted husband to Kelly, a loving father to Griffin, a cherished friend, and a pillar of the Kootenay backcountry community. His impact as a guide, teacher, mentor, and leader touched thousands of lives. His kindness, integrity, and passion for helping people move safely and joyfully through the mountains will remain part of our lives forever.

But Judson’s legacy extended far beyond guiding.
He was an exemplary community member — someone who showed up for everyone, without exception. Judson welcomed and supported people from all walks of life. He did not discriminate, and he consistently advocated for minority groups, ensuring that everyone felt seen, respected, and included in the spaces he helped shape.

Many in Nelson also knew him as the most enthusiastic crossing guard you’d ever meet — another reflection of how wholeheartedly he cared for his community.

Judson worked tirelessly across many roles to give Kelly and Griffon a secure, loving life. He was an ACMG ski and mountain guide, an avalanche educator, a BC Wildfire contract firefighter, and even a house painter when needed. He did whatever it took to ensure his family was supported — always with humility, dedication, and pride.

Beyond his professional life, Judson was wonderfully quirky, sarcastic, hilarious, and endlessly relatable. He loved music and could lose himself for hours jamming on his guitar. He teased, he joked, he lit up rooms, and he connected deeply with people — not just on the mountain, but everywhere he went.

As Kelly and Griffon navigate this heartbreaking and life-changing loss, we are coming together to support them in the ways they need most. Kelly now needs time to grieve, to heal, and to be present for Griffon without the immediate pressure of returning to work. We’re raising funds to give her that time and to support their stability and security in the months and years ahead.

Judson gave so much of himself — to his family, his friends, his community, the guiding world, and to anyone who needed support. Now it is our turn to give back.

If you are able, please contribute whatever you can. Every donation, message, and share helps lift Kelly and Griffon through this unimaginable time. Please share this with anyone who knew him, or knew of him and his family.

Thank you for holding this family in your hearts.
Thank you for honouring Judson.
And thank you for being part of the community he dedicated his life to building.
