Dylan Leigh turned 18 on 26 November 2025.

Most kids his age are planning gap years, getting their licence, or figuring out what to do after school. Dylan? He's been fighting cancer for over two years — and he's done it with more guts than most people show in a lifetime.

It started with a sore knee.

In January 2024, Dylan was doing what he loved — skateboarding — when pain in his knee and leg wouldn't go away. A trip to the GP led to physio. Seemed straightforward. But things went downhill fast.

By April 2024, Dylan was rushed to hospital. An X-ray revealed something far more serious. He was transferred to Sydney, where a biopsy confirmed the devastating news: sarcoma — a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

At just 16 years old, Dylan started chemotherapy in late April 2024. What followed was a brutal stretch of treatment — chemo cycles, minor surgeries, a cavalcade of health complications, and an emotional rollercoaster no teenager should ever have to ride. He pushed through it all and finished that round of chemo in November 2024.

For a while, there was hope.

Then in October 2025, a scan showed something suspicious. Dylan was rushed into emergency major surgery — 20% of his right lung was removed. That meant more monthly trips to Sydney. More chemo. More aggressive treatment. More time away from home, from mates, from any sense of normal.

On 13 April 2026, Dylan underwent another major operation — this time on his spine — to remove a tumour that threatened to cause paralysis. He went straight back into chemotherapy.

And then came the words no family should ever hear.

Doctors have told Dylan and his family that there is nothing more they can do to cure him. Dylan has now started palliative care. He is home with his family, surrounded by love, making the most of every single day he has left.
