Food for children @ Maasai School Arusha

*** Update 3: Our aim is to provide a supplementary meal on Wednesdays and for this to be a long term contribution. In order to achieve feeding all the children at Maasai School Arusha, it costs 100,000tzs equivalent to $61-67aud for each daily meal.

All together the amount of meals we can provide are equivalent to approximately 1 year!!!!! Such an incredible turnout!! Thank you all for making a difference

**Update 2: Mambo!! Join all of us to help provide consistent meals, water and clothing for the 75 children at the school we are volunteering at, Maasai School Arusha and remaining for local orphanage Camp Joshua with 200 children.

These children are ages 3-6yrs and can walk up to 13km just to get to school (2-3 hours one way). The school provides a cup of porridge each day for lunch and one meal of rice and beans or pilao only on Fridays.

Unfortunately for most, this will be the only meal many of these children will eat all day...

Without sustenance or water it makes learning and staying awake throughout the day very difficult. So hungry they will swallow things like beads and even dirt.

Right now it is winter and majority of the children are cold and wearing the same clothes everyday, all ripped and dirty. Providing some clothing to make them more comfortable and warm throughout the day.

*Update 1 : A MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who has helped me reach my initial target of $500!! All other donations will be used to purchase more textbooks and any other stationary while I am in Tanzania or anything else that is needed by the Meserani School or Camp Joshua!

Original: Hi, I am Laura and my goal is to fundraise to buy school supplies, stationary and hygiene products for 100 children in a school and orphanage in Tanzania!!

Back in 2020 I was planning on doing a volunteer trip to Tanzania, Africa to help on a building project for a pre-school St Stephen. I went for 4 days but due to COVID I had to return.

With the help of so many people, I was able to fundraise to get two suitcases filled school supplies, stationary and hygiene products. The help was so great that we were also able to donate not only to the school but also to a local orphanage.

I was unable to visit the orphanage as all schools were closed down because of covid. I am hoping to be able to visit the orphanage Camp Joshua while in Tanzania this time!

In under 5 weeks, I will be doing a 6 weeks building project for a rural school in a Masai village and then 3 weeks animal conservation in Kenya!

If anyone could please help out with any amount you are able to so I can once again donate as many school supplies as possible.

Due to weight restrictions and academic curriculum I will be purchasing all stationary such as pencils, crayons, rubbers, sharpener etc in Australia and the textbooks or work books will be purchased on my arrive with guidance from the team at Projects Abroad. It would also be great to purchase hygiene products dependant on funds.
