Food hampers for families in need over the school holidays

My name is Cath, I'm a Director at Siop Sero C.I.C. a zero waste shop in Roath and Rhiwbina. Part of our aim at the shops is to help with initiatives within the community to do with either the environment or working with charities/community projects to support causes that need help.

Over the summer holidays we have teamed up with Oasis Cardiff to provide food hampers every week for families in need. We started this last week and will continue it throughout the school holidays. We have received a number of messages from customers and the public asking how they can help.

After some thought, we decided that the best way for people who want to help would be to set up this page so people can donate if they wish. As lovely as it would be for people to buy things from the shop to donate, that would mean we'd be making a profit and that's not why we're doing it. We also want to to support other small businesses and independents as much as we can.

So, by doing this option, it means that I can go and buy more fruit and veg, cheese, etc which I bought from an independent greengrocer last wee. I can pop there on my day off on a Monday and the packs will be ready for Tuesday. It also means doing it this way, I can keep track that everyone is getting the right amount of food for each hamper.

We'll keep the go fund me page separate from Siop Sero finances so that we can be totally transparent with the spend. And we'll post receipts for everything we buy with the fund. Which I’ll be paying for personally and then transferring the go fund me money to me. Sharing my spends on socials as we go along.

We will also have boxes available at both shops for those who would like to donate less that £5. And please remember, we're not expecting anything, we will be doing it anyway. This is for those who have shown an interest and would like to help.
