Food for People Incarcerated in OC Jails

Due to COVID, the OC Jail kitchens are mostly closed, and people can no longer eat a hot meal. Instead, they are provided sack lunches three times a day. The lunches contain an overripe fruit and a bologna sandwich. Often, the bread is moldy and the meat is expired. Several people have gotten sick from these sandwiches. Those who can afford it, supplement with snacks from commissary. Those who cannot afford it are losing weight and going to bed hungry. We want to put a small amount of funds in the account of folx with nothing so that they can get a ramen or bag of chips instead of a molded sandwich.
We understand that this is a temporary solution. In the long term, we hope to see OC follow the lead of BLM and people around the country calling on us to defund the police and fund housing, food, mental health care, and resources in our communities so that people can get well instead of getting arrested. For now, we want to alleviate the acute suffering of our neighbors who are affected by COVID while incarcerated.
Each donation will go directly to a person incarcerated in an OC jail. Anything you can donate will feed someone who is hungry.
*Update 7/8: Thanks to everyone who donated, we have helped over 40 people who were going to bed hungry! We continue to accept donations and continue to help incarcerated people. Any new donations that have not been disbursed to people inside when the kitchen opens will provide direct support (including masks, food, or transportation) to people being released, many of whom were arrested before COVID and are returning to a completely different world of challenges. All funds will provide direct support to incarcerated people, their loved ones, and recently released people.*
