Food for NYC First Responders & Families in Need

We are a grassroots organization committed to getting plant-based meals to first responders and families affected by Corona Virus Pandemic and in need of food.  When NY went into lockdown due to the Corona Virus all events for the foreseeable future were canceled. We at Big Love Catering decided to put our talents to work to help our local community. Prompted by personal reports from several friends working as first responders we became acutely aware of the difficult work environment at the hospitals; lack of healthy food and p.p.e., long hours and overcrowding so we—Me, my wife Lena and son Valentino immediately sprang into action. Initially, we were just sending fifty meals to our friends at Mount Sinai, Brooklyn this quickly turned into over 4000 boxed plant-based meals over the course of 9 weeks delivered by volunteers from the community to Mt. Sinai Brooklyn, Mount Sinai Upper East Side, SUNY Downstate, West Chester Medical Center, Nassau University Medical Center, Elmhurst, Weill/Cornell, Kings County, Phelps and Brookdale Hospitals. 

We are now expanding our initiative to include feeding healthy plant-based meals to families in need that have been impacted financially by the pandemic in New York. The NY Times yesterday reported on May 21  that 1 in 4 New Yorkers does not have food to eat. The same day The Times also reported that the majority of food banks and the Dept. of Education are delivering sub-standard institutional food to children and families here in NYC. While any food is better than allowing families to go hungry, our mission is to get healthy plant-based food to those in need and ultimately make this the new standard. CNN is claiming that a global famine of Biblical proportion looms in the very near future for the planet. Please help us to make our dream a reality. We believe that Plant-based foods are the path to the future on every level.  Environmentally, the carbon footprint and greenhouse gas effect of industrial animal agriculture rival that of the world's third-largest economy. The pandemic has shed light on the unsanitary and inhumane conditions that both the animals and workers are subjected to which cause zoonosis, the transfer of diseases from animals to humans, hence —  the Corona Virus, Swine Flu, Ebola, Mad Cows, Avian Flu and SARS.  Scientists claim that it is only a matter of time before another super virus is unleashed as a result. We are committed to a greener and more sustainable planet. We aspire to create jobs locally, feed the hungry locally, and make a difference one step at a time.
