Food for families in need in Barranquilla
Donation protected
COVID-19 has affected all of us in many ways. It has divided our present in a before and after, and going 'back to normal' seems like a fish slipping through our hands.
Since the lockdown started in my hometown, Barranquilla - Colombia, I've been following their news, curve, their precautionary measures, always asking details to my mom, sister, and niece.
But beyond the natural anxiousness for the safety of my loved ones in a country with a very corrupt health system, other stories have been aching my chest. And that is of the numerous people, sometimes families altogether, knocking at my mom's door asking for food. I'm talking about women with children, babies, sometimes elderly people, walking the streets sharing pieces of their story, that starts and ends saying they didn't have anything to eat.
Some of those people were street vendors, food preparers, cleaners; they lived on a day by day basis, where the profit of the day gave them food and housing for a day. With the strict lockdown measurements and limited clientele purchasing goods on the streets, all those vendors and informal workers, in general, have lost their sole income. There are no food pantries, soup kitchens, unemployment offices, or any type of benefits from the government.
That's why I've created this GoFundMe. With your help, I would like to send food to those in need. I know that it takes more than this to feed the hungry, and hunger is a worldwide issue -this would be only a drop of help in an ocean of need- but if we could help dozens, or hundreds, regardless of their location, to resolve some days worth of food for them that have been living in a day by day basis, hit the most by COVID and forgotten, I think that drop would make a difference, would make a family happy.
