Emergency Food for Rural Families in Guatemala

Donation protected
Yabal Guatemala  is asking for your help! We need to raise emergency funds for food for two rural Mayan communities during the Covid-19 crisis. The rural communities of Pacutama and Chuicutama, in the region of Santa Catarina Ixtahuacan, are currently cut off from stores, commercial centers, income sources, and transportation in order to feed their families. Due to the partial quarantine measures put into place here in Guatemala to prevent the spread of the virus, rural communities that depended on public transportation in order to buy all their basic needs are now completely stranded. In addition, most families no longer have work options or income coming in. As of this moment, they have not received any government or municipal support or communication.

There are 90 families- 300 men, women, and children that live in these two communities. They need your help! With your support, we will be able to buy and bring out the following items for each family:
·     Rice
·     Beans
·     Soap
·     Pasta
·     Sugar
·     Lime (needed for making tortillas)

We hope those in our global community that have a little bit extra to donate during this time, will consider making a donation of any size to help us keep these families afloat.  Every $10-20 helps!

Yabal Guatemala is a Guatemalan NGO based in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. Our textile social enterprise, Yabal  , provides Fair Trade jobs and social programs for over 60 women artisans, the majority of whom are from the rural communities of Pacutama and Chuicutama. Through our social enterprise and social programs, we support women and rural communities as they overcome the challenges of poverty and disenfranchisement through a focus on economic sustainability, women's empowerment, and food security programs.
