Hi everyone,  I'm hoping  you can help me save my daughter and my home. I'm a single mom, widow and the situation that I'm in is devastating. My story  starts with my  beautiful daughter who I  took one look at when she was born and named her Hope.  She received her degree from Santa Monica College and then went on to further her education at Columbia University in communication and advertising. She was influenced by my coworkers in advertising that made her want to try her hand in the business. My daughter Hope a classical pianist and she also took  a film course and produced her first mini commercial. She was very proud of her accomplishment.  But after one year in Columbia University  something went dreadfully wrong with . Hope had to come home and I noticed something was different. A few months after she came home we we're talking and she stopped our conversation and complained of a sudden headache. She said Mama something is wrong. She tap the back of her head as if to reset her brain. She cried out to me again saying  Ma what's happening to me. I will never forget the look of fear on her face and there was nothing I could do but grab her and hold her as she cried. This is a girl that took 2 buses and a train to Santa Monica College from South Central  and never missed a day due to Illness. Besides  her own English language  Hope speaks 4 languages, Spanish, French, Hebrew  and was teaching herself Japanese.  She loved lifting young kids spirits speaking encouraging words to them in their language. When I saw her in crisis I immediately took her to the doctor. She was diagnosed with Adjustment Disorder. This is a type of mental breakdown that doctors aren't really sure why or how it happens but it happens to during teen years and is fully recognized by the age of 24. This disorder can happen to any child regardless of race, or economic background. The disorder can include psychosis, depression as well as other mental unrest.
It could have happened because she didn't have closure with the death of he dad. She left to college a day after his death. Combined with the stress of trying to excel in college. The doctor said finding the right combination of medication could help the patient live a normal life or very close to it again. The doctor excused Hope from the exam room and she left the doctor office while I went to the ladies room. Hope was in a confused state and she left the building and got lost and wondered  the streets for over 3 months. You can't amagine the horror that I went through to find her. I spent 48 hours searching for her. I made flyers and had LAPD as well as SMPD looking for her.  I went to Health officials, her college friends everywhere I could think of.  I'm a driver for a company that provides transportation to seniors and  the disabled. I was hoping I would have a good chance of seeing her while out driving around so that's what I did. I also needed to work to pay my bills. There was a time when I had a sighting but I lost her. I would need to loose work time when I would have sighting  to contact police for assistance. The problem would be that Hope did not recognize me. She was looking so tattered , sunburned and unkept. At these opportunities of intervening the police could not help because they said she wasn't a harm to herself nor others so we can't arrest her nor force her to go to the hospital to get medical attention. When your child is over 18 there's not much you can do the officer said. The person in crisis has to know something is wrong and ask for help on their own. A few times I found her on the college  library steps at 2:00am in the morning. After 3 months of worry, searching and frustration I found  her and was able to get her home. She was afraid because she forgot who I was but by that time she was crying out for help. She is coming along well and adjusting being home but during the process of getting my daughter home I became behind on my mortgage and medical needs. So this is why I'm asking for your help. Please help me keep our home, I need to help my daughter heal in her familiar surroundings. I'm keeping a journal of my experience and I want to be able to help parents or loved ones with  similar  situations. I've gotten training and certified from NAMI - National Alliance on Mental  Illness. I'm equipped now to be an advacate for our friends and loved ones in this pain.  Thank you so much
