If you are a York resident you can't have missed the spate of St. George's flags and Union Jacks that have appeared around the city. Now, I love a good Union Flag, I really do, but recent events have put our flag at risk of being misinterpreted as a symbol of division rather than unity. City of York Council have now indicated they will be removing flags from around the city.
My response to the flagging is simple. Let's hang up other flags too. Let's litter the city with so many flags that it looks like we are hosting the next Olympics.
Unfortunately, I am a humble student, and therefore I am poor. A pack of 100 nation flags costs north of £420-£545 (World of Flags), plus I want to buy LGBTQ+ flags and Yorkshire flags. So if we all pitch in a tenner, I think we can fund this together.
