Hi, My name is Dave, my brother Doug passed away unexpectedly on June 30, 2024. Doug was a good old boy but he was terrible with money. He left his wife Forence with a 500 $ a month mortgage ( 50,000 still owing on a small home, no basement or foundation, appraised at 90,000 but it needs work) plus a second mortgage with Easy Financial for 25,000. @ 25.9 % interest. Doug had no life insurance and nothing in the bank. Easy Financial is asking Florence to pay 450$ per month or they will seize her house and sell it!
Florence is on CPP and receives about $1000 per month, she has COPD and it not possible for her to work full time, she will turn 65 next year and be able to get O.A.S. until then she has to get by on $1000 per month. after that she will be getting about $1600 a month... whoopee.
Florence doesn't smoke, doesn't drink, doesn't gamble and she does not do drugs. If she can keep her home until she turns 65 she thinks will do ok.
Flo didn't want to borrow from Easy Fi and didn't want to sign anything but Doug got her in and the Manager told her that signing was only acknowledging that she knew Doug was borrowing the money, now of course they say she signed the paper and owes the money.
About 75 days ago she was sitting outside on the deck with her husband of 36 years, they were chatting and he was having a smoke... his eyes rolled back and he fell out of his chair, massive heart attack! never regained consciousness. Now Easy Fi is hounding her for money that she can't afford or they will take her home. Somehow this is legal in Canada, people with poor credit can't get a loan at a reasonable price so these companies can charge crazy interest , like 45% per year if you don't have collateral, 25% if you're willing to put your home on the line. Doug knew what he was doing, he knew he was paying crazy interest rates but he planned on paying his bills, he didn't plan on dying and I'm sure he didn't plan on leaving Flo in such a bad way. Flo needs our help, I cant do it on my own so I'm reaching out to friends, family and strangers (Friends I haven't met yet) to ask your help in helping Florence get through this and let her grieve the loss of her husband without the vultures at Easy Fi picking the bones and trying to get every last cent she has. Every little bit helps
