Flood Relief for Zoë, Scotty, and Dogs
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Zoë. I don’t like asking for money or help but I feel like this is a valid enough reason to start. As many of you know I live in Durham, NC with my boyfriend and our 2 pups. We were expecting a “tropical storm” but only to get the typical amount of rain as the coast was going to get the worst of it. We were prepared for rainfall but not for what was coming.
Around 2 am our dog Jazz woke us up barking which normally indicates a deer on our front lawn or a stray cat walking by. Little did we know she was alerting us that there was water in our home and she had nowhere to lay down. When we realized what was happening there was about 2 inches of water all throughout the house. We started to gather things to leave, but the water started rising quickly and all rationale thought went out the window. We grabbed our dogs food, medications, whatever was sitting in the dryer and left everything else behind. By the time we were pulling out of our driveway there was about a foot of water in our driveway and 8-9 inches in our home. Everything is ruined…all of our furniture, clothes- especially as it’s now baking in 90°+ temperatures.
We are starting this GoFundMe to help us get back on our feet while we are unable to access our home. I have attached our receipt from Walmart that we went to today to get tshirts and shorts/ undergarments/ and another pair of shoes each as I only had my rain boots and Scotty only had his soaked sneakers. I will also be out of work for an unknown amount of time as all of my scrubs / shoes are in my home which is inaccessible— I will be taking this time to figure out what the next steps are.
We are still waiting to hear from our property management about what the next steps are and what our rental insurance covers if it covers anything at all. We have no idea how high the water got after we evacuated, we have no idea what’s destroyed and what’s left of ours, but the odds aren’t looking too good.
We know times are tough for everyone so we are grateful for whatever you decide to donate or even if you just share.
