Hi, my name is Dori Fern and I am a volunteer with the Flatbush Friendly Fridge, a community fridge* that sits outside the PLG Coffee House at 499 Rogers at Midwood. For over two years, we've been "rescuing" food from local businesses seeking to reduce their food waste and delivering it to the good people of Prospect Lefferts Gardens/Flatbush. Sometimes neighbors donate food as well. On a typical day, the fridge is filled with all kinds of fresh produce, staples like milk, eggs, and much, much more.
Our motto is: Take what you need. Leave some behind. Help when you can.
Now, dear friends and neighbors, we're asking for your help in the form of donations to keep the fridge humming.
We want to raise funds to cover expenses that result from running a community fridge and to have some extra to fund other capital improvements. We are not a formal organization; we are a just a small assortment of individuals committed to bringing good food** to our neighbors that would otherwise go to waste.
Here is how we plan to use donated funds:
- Pay for necessary repairs and other operational costs
- Compensate PLG Cafe for use of their electricity
- Additional funds would be used to contribute to the fuel costs of the few volunteers who put in many hours a week doing food rescues and deliveries

**Want to drop off food at the Flatbush Friendly Fridge? We have just a few "rules," along with some guidelines:
- ONLY LEAVE FOOD YOU WOULD EAT YOURSELF: No rotten or near-rotten produce, expired or half-eaten bags of food, and so forth
- FRESH PRODUCE AND OTHER UNOPENED GROCERY ITEMS ARE PREFERRED. While we do have partnerships with restaurants and prepared food businesses, many are leery of taking homemade foods. If you do, please include ingredients used.
