Do you want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising urgent funds for a Baltimore jewel, the Muslim Community Cultural Center of Baltimore. The community is WITHOUT HEAT this winter. We are fundraising for a new furnace, and every single donation will help.
As a professor and educator, I have had the honor of collaborating with Imam Earl El-Amin in interfaith education. He has hosted my students at MCCCB to experience the rich history of American Islam. My husband prays at this beautiful center every Friday and each week we are moved by Imam Earl’s call to self-development and social justice - and his clear love of God and humankind.
The Backstory
Earlier this year, the oil-fired furnace and boiler at MCCCB stopped working. A technician confirmed that the furnace, over a decade old, would be impossible to repair. The MCCCB received estimates for a new furnace and boiler system from three reputable companies (Amazing Heating and Air Conditioning, Coldspring Heating and Air Conditioning, and Caton Heating/Air) and are fundraising for the amount of $15,000.
Why I support MCCCB
Founded in 1990, MCCCB has had a profound impact on the Baltimore Metropolitan area. For thirty years, the center has maintained strong and consistent relationships with other faith traditions and hosted groundbreaking dialogues that led to coalitions on gun control, youth summer employment and adopting a seniors’ building to provide monthly deliveries of fresh fruit. Every year, the Center hosts an open house for community residents and has been the site of the New Africa Festival, outdoor movie nights and a summer camp.
MCCCB serves as a host site for students from elementary school to college who want to learn about the Center’s important role in Baltimore history, Black history, and the history of American Islam. MCCCB runs a mentoring program at a nearby elementary school and educates globally, hosting delegations from Morocco, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Senegal, Ghana and Jordan.
How can you help?
Without a heating system for the winter months, the critical community-building work of MCCCB will be severely impacted. PLEASE help by donating to our campaign.
