Who We Are
A few of us students at UTK have been working together on something we’re really excited about. The five of us set a goal to raise $1,000 for Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee, and we’re kicking off a campaign this fall to make it happen. We know $1,000 might not sound huge, but every dollar can help provide meals for families across the 18 counties Second Harvest serves. Our goal is to nourish the hungry, struggling families of Tennessee to strengthen our community.
Our Purpose
The priority of our campaign is to provide meals for people in need this season here in East Tennessee. All donations of any kind will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank, which will provide meals to those who are struggling within the community. Every dollar can make a significant impact for the community, and our goal is to raise $1,000, which will provide over 3,000 meals for all citizens in Blount County and other surrounding areas.
Why It Matters
Food insecurity is not just a problem in a few cities in America. It is happening right here in Knoxville. For many families, Second Harvest is the lifeline that in many ways ensures kids do not go hungry, keeps seniors from skipping meals, and allows parents to focus on work instead of sacrificing food for children. According to Feeding America's most recent Map the Meal Gap report, 1 in 6 reside
nts, as well as 1 in 6 children, are considered food insecure in East TN. Out of the most recent count of 213,970 people total, that means 50,460 children.
How You Can Help
You can make a difference by donating to our campaign. Every dollar stretches farther than you think, and sharing this campaign with friends, family, and classmates helps spread awareness. To thank donors, we are offering small perks of appreciation.
