Fish Pond Woods in Bewerley has become a real part of the Nidderdale community. A place where people come to slow down, learn new skills, and reconnect with nature. It’s been shaped by Peter and Michelle Brambleby, who started Whitewoods Wellbeing to help people find calm and connection outdoors.
Two weeks ago, Peter’s woodshed and tool sheds were broken into.
All the security cameras were stolen, along with over £15,000 worth of equipment, including the quad bike. The fact that the cameras were taken too suggests the burglary was planned, as someone clearly knew where they all were.
A week later, those same buildings were set on fire and burnt down, destroying more essential equipment worth around £5,000. Because there’s no one living on-site, these buildings and this equipment couldn't be insured; therefore, there is no insurance to cover this loss.
Peter has spent years quietly doing amazing work in these woods — creating habitats, restoring the pond, rewilding and managing the wood, hosting volunteer days, and supporting local projects that help people get outside. The woods have become a haven for many people and an important space for community and wellbeing.
Now, he needs a bit of help himself.
We’re raising funds to replace the stolen tools, rebuild the sheds, and get Fish Pond Woods back up and running. Every bit will make a difference and help Peter continue the work that’s brought so much to our community.
If you’ve ever walked through those woods, joined a session there, or just believe in what they stand for, please chip in if you can.
Thank you. I can't tell you how much it would mean to them and our community.
