District of Columbia Children of the American Revolution State President’s Project:
Fish and Chip(shots)
This D.C.C.A.R. State President’s Project has 2 components:
1) Fish and Chips- To Feed Hungry Veterans (and others) in our Nation’s Capital by collecting donations of food and money to buy food to be distributed through U.S.VETS-Washington D.C.
2) Fish & Chipshots-To Support the Veteran’s Recreational Therapy Needs at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C.
Fish & Chips
We will be collecting money to purchase food for homeless veterans/the hungry in our Nation’s Capitol.
We are partnering with U.S.VETS-Washington D.C.
Food Drive - Chip/Snacks including breakfast and power bars would be greatly appreciated.
Monetary Donations to Feed our Veterans - This is an immediate need and would greatly assist and our work with veterans. Donating $12 provides 3 meals a day for one military veteran experiencing homelessness at our U.S.VETS facility in southeast Washington. $84 feeds a veteran for a week for $84!
We will provide a catered meal of Fish and Chips one evening or weekend for the veterans. We will provide themed disposable placemats, napkins, plates and even favors if we are able.

Fun Fishing Project: There are two Fishing ponds on the grounds that could use some updated equipment to include: fishing rods, throw rods, stocked tackle boxes, lawn chairs, and portable light-weight folding tables. In the future, it would be nice if we could have a "Chip-In Ponds Day Pickup" and "Fishing Rodeo & Fish Fry".
Fishing can be stress relieving and reduce anxiety, it has proven positive effects on blood pressure and heart health. Fishing can lower your heart rate which in turn can aide in helping with heart rate and blood pressure. Fishing is a great way for our Residents to leave stressors behind, breathe in the fresh air and relax. Fishing can also provide socialization, even while we continue to social distance. Residents can sit back, relax, and wait for the "big one" to take a bite.
Ponds are catch and release.
Swing Into Golf Project: The Home has a 9/10 Hole Golf Course. During COVID 19 Residents have not been able to utilize the course at this time but hope to in the near future. Could use a men's and women's loaner set of clubs, one left handed set of clubs, and 12 dozen inexpensive balls. As the weather gets nicer we are able to set up small tournaments for the residents. We hope to have a "Chip’s Chipping Challenge" contest on the perimeter of the putting green.
Playing a round of golf has many health benefits: Physical Activity - even riding a cart you'll easily rack up the steps for a round of golf. It improves circulation and can keep your blood pressure down. Mental Stimulation - strategy and focus as there is more to golf then simply hitting a ball and going after it.
More information about District of Columbia Children of the American Revolution: The District of Columbia Children of the American Revolution members gain valuable leadership experience in conducting meetings, following parliamentary procedures and standard protocol, serving as delegates and speaking before groups at local, state and national conferences.
