Hayley and Derek had no idea, until they were facing a diagnosis of male factor secondary infertility. Infertiity is physically, mentally and financially exhausting. Trying for years for a baby you so desperately want is a beyond difficult. 

After over a year and a half of tests, Hayley and Derek travelled to Calgary in October 2021 to do an IUI procedure (intrauterine insemination). It sadly did not work. Taking a hard look at their odds realistically, they made the decision to move to IVF next, and switch clinics to Aurora in Saskatoon. 

For those who are not familiar, IVF costs over $10,000 plus medications ($7,000) which is not covered in Saskatchewan. Unfortunately, their work drug plan also provides no coverage.

Hayley and Derek are amazing parents to Elliott. Anyone who knows them knows they give their all to that little boy, and he is a product of their patient, compassionate, forward-thinking and growth-minded parenting.
