I grew up in a low-income household in New York City, living in NYCHA housing my entire life with my parents and siblings. Home was always shared — shared space, shared responsibilities, shared sacrifices — and it taught me early on the value of resilience, gratitude, and community. Now, I’m beginning a new chapter: moving into my first apartment and living on my own for the first time. While this step is exciting, it’s also emotional. Leaving the home I shared with my family represents growth, independence, and everything my parents worked so hard to give us.
