Fireman's Challenge - Pi Kappa Alpha

Donation protected
Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Lambda Pi chapter is hosting our fourth annual Fireman’s Challenge. Participants include Pike brothers, sororities, and the local East Williston Fire Department. The purpose of this event is to raise money for the East Williston Fire Department as well as several other non-profit and service organizations. These brave men and women continue to give so much to their community and we believe we should continue to give back. Sororities will be competing to win by whoever accumulates the most points. Points will be awarded based on money donation, member participation, and event performance. In the past two years we were able to raise over $16,000 thanks to the help of our wonderful sororities, alumni, friends, family, and faculty.

The donation breakdown:

The largest portion of your donations will go to support the local men and women of East Williston Fire Department. So far, through your collective efforts they have been able to purchase enough personal radios for all of their members. This is extremely important on any emergency scene, and helps to keep them safe when running into hazardous conditions. This year, our goal is to be able to fund new extrication equipment for them (“jaws of life” as its referred to) to help cut victims out of cars in the case of a bad car accident.

The second largest recipient of your donations will go to The Ray Pfeifer Foundation, an organization which helps cover the medical costs of 9/11 first responders that aren’t covered by insurance. This includes cancer treatment, respiratory diseases like asthma and COPD, as well as many of the mental illnesses caused from 9/11 like PTSD, depression, and anxiety disorder. These brave men and women put everything on the line that day, and giving back to them in their time of need for accomplishing the greatest rescue mission in US history is the least we can do. More information about the charity can be found here:

The third largest recipient of your donations is the Emma Zen Foundation. This organization helps to provide oxygen masks specifically designed for animals. After being exposed to high levels of carbon monoxide in a fire, one of the most important things is to replace the carbon monoxide in your blood with oxygen. This can be a problem for cats and dogs as many departments don’t have masks designed for them, so the best option available is to point the masks they carry towards them, and hope they breathe enough of the oxygen in to save their life. This organization has supplied thousands of pet oxygen masks all over the country, so that animals rescued from a fire have a better chance at survival. These masks have made a massive difference especially in states out west, where wildfires claim the lives of many pets. More information on the Emma Zen Foundation can be found here:
