Fire Recovery: Rebuilding Hope for the Hashimi Family

Donation protected
On June 3, the Hashimi family lost their home and all of their belongings in a devastating fire. Thankfully, Said, his wife, and their five children escaped safely, but they are now facing the difficult task of rebuilding their lives.

Many of us know Said as a dedicated colleague, friend, and father. Before coming to the United States, Said served in the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan as a Refugee Affairs Specialist, supporting the delivery of U.S.-funded humanitarian assistance to vulnerable and displaced populations. After being evacuated from Afghanistan, Said continued his service through the Department of State, supporting the Afghan Affairs Unit and PRM's assistance programming until he was laid off in September 2025 as part of the foreign assistance review and Department reorganization.

Despite the challenges they have faced, the Hashimi family has always focused on building a bright future for their children. Their five children, ages 18 months to 11 years old, are resilient, hardworking, and thriving in their new community. Today, they have lost not only their home, but the stability and security they worked so hard to create.

Please consider contributing, sharing their story, or sending a message of encouragement. Donations will help provide clothing, food, school supplies, household essentials, and other immediate needs while they rebuild. Most importantly, our support can help remind them that they are not facing this challenge alone.
