Help Support Finley and His Family During His Fight Against Stage 3 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma

We are raising funds to help the parents of Finley, a 7 year old from East Lothian who was recently diagnosed with stage 3 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Finley's Story

5 weeks ago, Finley went to A&E after having problems breathing which his parents, Maria & Peter, assumed were associated with his asthma. However, within just a few hours of being admitted to hospital, a tumour had been located in Finley’s chest and further tests uncovered that he has stage 3 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma - a type of blood cancer that affects white blood cells called lymphocytes.

The advanced stage of the cancer and need for immediate intervention meant Finley was kept in hospital and will need an intensive course of chemotherapy, along with other treatments, as an in-patient in hospital over the next 4 months.

Finley is a happy and typical 7 year old who enjoys playing with his friends, gaming, going to school and spending time with his family. His diagnosis has come out of the blue and there were no major warning signs in the weeks leading up to his diagnosis so it has been a huge shock to his family, friends and classmates.

What this means for the family

Finley's parents, Maria and Peter have had their lives turned upside down in these last few weeks and have now found themselves living at a hospital 20 miles away from their home. Living at hospital means no weekly food shop, and meals on the go. They currently take it in shifts to be by Finley's side and to get some sleep. Maria has had to stop working during this time and Peter will be returning to work in just a part-time capacity in the coming weeks. They are therefore earning less, yet their expenses remain the same, if not more as they are living away from home for the foreseeable future.

The Funds Raised

The aim of this fundraiser is to help support Maria and Peter in their time of need. To help ease the financial burden they currently face while they are not working and to allow them to be by Finley's side without the worry of financial pressures hanging over them.

Our plan is to make these funds immediately available to Maria and Peter to help them cover basic living costs such as their rent, and food shopping while they take time out of work to care for Finley during his treatment.

They will use what they need to cover living costs in the short term and funds raised beyond that will be held in the event that Finley needs specialist treatment in the future. We hope that won’t be necessary in which case, any remaining funds will be donated to a charity of Maria & Peter’s choosing.
