Desmond was diagnosed with DIPG (diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas), a very aggressive brain tumor in Dec of 2019, with a life expectancy of 3-6 months after being a completely healthly child up until then. Once we got his diagnosis, we immediately jumped into action. He was airlifted from Sacramento to San Francisco for him to fight the tumor as aggressively as it was fighting him. At San Francisco's Childrens Hospital, he underwent 15 rounds of radiation throught the christmas season and beginning of the New year, and the size of the tumor was reduced. Not long after the last radiation we were able to go home, to enjoy the time that he had remaining. He was able to celebrate his 4th birthday running around being a normal 4yr old. The next 3 months he was able to live a normal life being a crazy, little boy without a care in the world. Due to his good response to radiation, he was able to participate in a clinical trial in July of 2020. By August we had notice the simple things that he was able to do became harder. We then went to the hospital and received the devastating news that the tumor was actively growing and has spread. We were then transported back to San Francisco where we were told that he only had a couple of weeks left with us. The weeks went down to days and 1 month later he is still continuing his fight. We cherish and value every morning waking up with him, but do to this wild devastating unexpected journey, we have not been able to work at our full capacity or even much at all. Even with this world wide pandamic we are essential workers that worked 40+ hours a week. We are currently at a children's hospice facility over a 100 miles away from home, work, and our other sons, ages 12 and 7. In less then 3 week they would be 13 and 8 years old. Due to not working our bills have accumulated with two birthdays and christmas approaching. The family that always has giving a helping hand, now needs help.
