We stand with sistergirls, an injury to one is an injury to all!
Recent attacks on transgender people rights by the CLP and Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro demonstrate the need for the community to support Sistergirls and LGBTQ+ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the NT.
We are a group of NT based LGBTQ+ peers working with Sistergirls and LGBTQ+ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are incarcerated and exiting the prison system.
You can contribute to critical pre and post release supports including:
- Accomodation
- Clothing
- Mobile phone
- Phone credit
- Reading and art materials
- Food
- Toiletries
- Gender affirming care
In the NT, Sistergirls and trans women are currently housed in male prisons, where they experience disproportionately high rates of sexual assault, verbal abuse, and physical violence. Many report fear of disclosing sexual or physical assaults, or even their gender identity, due to the risk of being placed in solitary confinement. Upon release there is a significant absence of housing for gender diverse people, this means sistergirls have to stay at male hostels which are also unsafe or appropriate.

Through this, the sistergirls in Darwin Corrections proudly stand together. Let’s stand with them and remind this government that they do not get to take away anyone’s crown.
They are vibrant, intelligent and fierce and proud of who they are. Let's show them that we care!
