Immediate need: Please help get legal recognition of my family in Haiti -Legal Fees
I am raising four vibrant kids in Haiti and need your help! Three of my children have been sponsored by me since 2010 (after a devastating earthquake) and I have been their full time mom since 2015, living in Haiti, working, cooking, cleaning, teaching, and filling their lives with love and stability. I have formal guardianship of them, but they are not recognized as my legal children. If I can adopt them in Haiti, our lives will drastically change. This GoFundMe was created for assistance with the legal fees to finalize our adoption of three children in Haiti. The only thing holding us back, is the funding.
Haitian recognition of my children is the next step on our path to equality within our own family. My youngest daughter, 27 mo, (my only bio child) is a dual citizen and she will face far fewer barriers then her brothers and sister. She and I can travel to see grandparents, go to Disneyland, and even more basically, follow our dreams of high-quality education and career opportunities. I want the same for all my children.
My oldest is named Rodriguez. He is 15 years old and one of the kindest people I have ever met. If you met him, you would immediately realize how well he takes care of everyone around him. As you got to know him more, you would also see that he is fiercely intelligent. He takes all the materials around him to solve problems for others, such as building new toys for our youngest, designing traps for neighbors to catch household pests, or helping siblings with homework. If he has the opportunity, with your help, to become one of my legal children, he would like to study engineering. I know he will be one of the young people to solve the emerging challenges their generation will face globally.
Monika is 14 years old and biologically related to Rodriquez. She loves grace and symmetry. You can see this in her love of dance and math. Everyday she stretches and practices her ballet skills in our home using online resources. My dream for her is to continue her dance education, but also to find a community where she can develop her art. She loves to challenge herself and as she grows into a young woman, I can see that her voice is emerging. Dance, art, and a community that fosters and supports this kind of contribution to the world, will find an active and inventive participant with a unique perspective on the world.
Tchaly is 11 years old and exploring his promotion from baby of the family to big brother. He charms everyone he meets from babies to the elderly. He is able to make everyone feel comfortable. He is a natural leader and jumps into any problem to help find a solution and share his new discoveries with everyone. He plays with my youngest and takes his big brother responsibilities very seriously including teaching her pre-k skills like colors and counting. He also loves to join in witht he older kids. Tchaly is the bridge and the glue of our family. As my legal child Tchaly would be able to explore all the options newly available to him for education and career.
Currently, they are all working diligently on their education using a challenging but very high-quality online distance learning program in English (in which they are all fluent). We are ready for the next step on this road. This is a multiyear journey, but we can see the end in sight. With your help, we can continue down the path toward opportunity and equality.
