Fighting Hunger. Filling Tummies.

Who we are
 
Erica, Randen, and Peter here! We are three students at the University of Oklahoma who started this campaign, hoping to bring awareness to food deserts in Oklahoma and raise support for a local non-profit that is making a difference by filling one hungry tummy at a time.

The Problem 

Currently, 1 in 4 children in Oklahoma go to bed hungry, 1 in 6 seniors don’t know where their next meal is coming from, and Oklahoma is among the worst states in the nation for food insecurity… this is a big problem, and it was only exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
That’s why Lisa Blacknoll created Filling Tummies, and to assist them; we are seeking to raise $2,880 to help malnourished children with 1,000 healthy meals in the Oklahoma City area. These meals will be sourced by local farmers and brought directly to those in need through their amazing mobile filling tummies food bus!

The Solution

Filling Tummies is a non-profit organization that provides free and fresh food to children and seniors in areas that are considered food deserts. The Filling Tummies Mobile Food Pantry is a converted school bus that brings food directly to underserved areas. They strategically focus on providing food at the end of the week, so that people can eat during the weekend when school lunches and other sources of free food aren’t available. 100% of clients at each location are encouraged to take something so that no one is left out.
The Mobile Food Pantry bus has been painted and renovated inside and out, with rails on the outside which crates are attached to once it reaches its destination. You can help fill these crates with fresh fruits and vegetables like bananas, apples, mangoes, peaches, oranges, cucumbers, carrots and other staples. There are more options inside the bus that are less perishable like granola bars, oatmeal, and graham crackers.

The experience of visiting the Mobile Food Pantry is designed to be as fun, inviting, and de-stigmatized as possible. People are empowered to make their own choices on what to take, and healthy choices are encouraged. 

Your contribution will empower underserved communities by

-Helping a child who would otherwise go to bed hungry
-Acquiring healthy nutritious foods from local farmers
-Loading the food bus and delivery to areas most in need without access
-Increase the amount of children we can keep from going hungry in multiple areas by getting more resources such as another bus and more helping hands.
