Fight for renewable energy

Thank you for looking in here.

My name is Asia, I am mum to 3 girls, a physiotherapist and environmental activist.  I am lucky to own my home in Limerick, where I installed Photovoltaic panels.

As you might know current regulations in Ireland require planning permission for more than seven pv solar panels/12 sq m and this is not enough to power any-once home. I broke the rule, not intentionally, and did fight for 2 years to keep them on my roof including appealing Limerick City and Count Council's decision, not to grand me retention, to An Board Pleanala. As you can imaging this was a long and expensive fight. My government, at the time, not only did not support me, but prevented me from being more green, more sustainable for good of us All. My three daughters: Aga, Gosia and Sally, who were all along proud of me, are the reason I put up with this fight. I want them to live in a better, cleaner world, not a worst one.

In July this year The Board decided:

‘In deciding not to accept the Inspector’s recommendation to refuse permission for retention, the Board considered that the development would not be visually obtrusive, would not give rise to nuisance from glint and glare, would not seriously injure the visual or residential amenities of the area, and would not establish an undesirable precedent.’ (This were the grounds I was refused in first place )

So the panels are back and are making electricity.

Along the way I got a great support from environmental groups: Community Power, Friends of the Irish Environment, Friends of the Earth,  An Taisce and Emmon Ryan from Green Party, they all made  an observations to ABP supporting my case.
I could not possibly win this case without them.
I also want to say thank you to Nik Hennessy who did great report and charged little for it. Thank you all who helped to pay for that report too.

I have a great satisfaction that I have panels back on to my roof and that I set a precedent, which hopefully will help others if they had to take on Planners.

I demand that Minister of Environment immediately amend the planning regulations by way of a statutory instrument, so no more cases like mine will see a day light and instead more panels see the sun light.

I demand that my cost for application( 1200 euro), court fine (750 euro), costs of putting panels up and down twice during the process of appeal, cost of fitting gas boiler are return to me.

I ask you to support me to first pay the 750 euro fine which I have to pay by end of October, to help me to cover some of the costs that I covered to set this precedent and hopefully change legislation in very near future. I hope to challenge decision of the court and LCCC and I ask for your support on that.

Thank you for your kindness and support
