Fight for Armi’s Safe Return to His Mom

Donation protected
My name is Adrienn Kovács, and I am a mother fighting to reunite with my young son, Armaan (“Armi”), who was taken from me as a result of an unjust custody process based on misinformation, default orders, and procedural failures.

This is not just a custody case.
It is a fight for a child’s safety, stability, and basic right to be raised by the parent who has cared for him every single day of his life.

What Happened

Armi was born on October 2, 2021. I was his primary caregiver from birth. Due to serious safety concerns related to his father’s untreated alcoholism, I relocated with Armi to Hungary in late 2022, with the father’s explicit consent. He purchased our one-way tickets, registered Armi’s permanent address in Hungary, and repeatedly acknowledged in writing that we were living there permanently.

While Armi and I were living safely in Hungary, I filed a custody case there.
Unbeknownst to me, the father filed a case in New York and misrepresented the facts, claiming I had taken our son on a “two-week vacation” and kidnapped him.

While I was abroad, sick, unrepresented, and misled about court appearances, a default custody order was issued against me in New York — without a hearing on the merits, without my meaningful participation, and based on false statements.

The Consequences

In October 2025, armed with that default order, authorities removed my child from his kindergarten class abroad — without warning and without allowing him to say goodbye.
I have not held my son since.

My contact with him is now severely restricted and monitored. I am often forced to speak to him only in English, even though Hungarian is his primary language, causing him confusion and distress.

Meanwhile, the father — who has since lost his medical license due to alcohol-related misconduct — is not raising Armi himself. Armi is being cared for by extended family while his father moves between states and countries.

Why I Need Help

The father’s family has vast financial resources and has openly stated they would outspend me until I cannot fight anymore.

I do not come from wealth.
To continue this fight, my family was forced to sell our apartment in Hungary just to cover legal fees.

I am now rebuilding my life in New York, working as a tennis coach, complying with every legal requirement, and doing everything the Court asks — but justice is expensive, especially when it spans two countries.

What the Funds Will Be Used For

Your support will help cover:

Emergency motions to vacate the default custody order

Legal representation in New York Family Court

Forensic and expert evaluations ordered by the court

International legal coordination and translations

Ongoing court fees and filings

Basic living stability while this case proceeds

Why This Matters

This case was never decided based on evidence or what is best for a child.
It was decided because I was absent, misled, sick, and financially outmatched.

I am not asking for special treatment.
I am asking for a fair hearing, for the truth to be heard, and for my son to be safe and reunited with his mother.

If you believe that a child should not lose their mother because of money, manipulation, or procedural injustice, please consider supporting us.

Even sharing this page helps.

From the bottom of my heart —
Thank you for standing with Armi and me.
